Spline drive bayonets are now fitted as standard to all shearing machines with rigid downtubes and are designed to prevent a handpiece lock-up when fitted correctly on the short nylon core.

Fitting a spline drive bayonet onto a flexidrive
A spline drive fitting can also be used on flexible downtubes for portable dagging & crutching machines, but will not perform in the 'safety capacity' it is designed for ie; it will not prevent a handpiece lock-up when fitted on a steel inner core.
It is also important to note that the handpiece may also fall away or disengage from the flexi downtube every time the machine is switched off.
Most flexible downtubes are therefore still run with the Pin Drive Bayonet system
